A witness of the horror smash involving Sheffield United star Lys Mousset's Lamborghini says it was lucky nobody was killed.

The £300,000 car was involved in a crash in the early hours of Monday morning, with two men in their 20s being arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving.

The collision saw the orange supercar strike a Land Rover Discovery, which span into a stone gatepost and then crashed into another parked car.

A picture was then posted online of the badly damaged Lamborghini, which had its side torn off, and a local resident who witnessed the aftermath of the incident revealed that it was lucky nobody died.

The 57-year-old told the Sheffield Star: 'The Lamborghini had a side ripped off, there was debris all over the road.

'A Land Rover Discovery had been spun round 90 degrees and into a solid stone gatepost, there was oil and fuel spilling down there road... it was quite an unpleasant scene.

'If anybody had been walking past at the time, they would have been killed, no question. The Discovery in particular must have been hit with some impact to be spun round like it was.'

It has not been confirmed whether Mousset was at the wheel of the vehicle at the time, while Sheffield United confirmed on Monday that they are investigating the matter internally.

A witness at the scene said that two men were seen near the crash site but one left before the emergency services arrived.

It has been claimed that police officers then turned up to speak to the remaining man, before a car then left and returned shortly after with another man in the back.

Both men were then driven away by officers, and South Yorkshire Police confirmed in a statement that two men in their 20s had been arrested on suspicion of drink driving before being released pending an investigation.

Mousset's car, which the 24-year-old regularly posts pictures of on Instagram, is regularly seen on Abbeydale Road South, where the crash occurred, which is under two miles away from Sheffield United's Bramall Lane Stadium.

The Frenchman, who earns £25,000 a week, started for the Premier League's bottom club Sheffield United in their defeat against Crystal Palace on Saturday, but he has failed to score a single goal all season.

He signed for Sheffield United from Bournemouth in the summer of 2019 in a deal worth £10million, and was their top scorer last season after netting six league goals, but has failed to find his feet in six league appearances this term.

Sportsmail has approached Mousset's representatives for comment.
