A quirk of Wolves' loan deal for Barcelona forward Francisco Trincao means they will now 'pay £5million to not sign him.'
According to BBC Sport, The Portuguese winger's loan deal included a fee in case Wolves decided not to use the option to buy in his contract.
The Premier League club will now have to pay up as Trincao returns to Barcelona, although they will reportedly receive 20% of his transfer fee if he is sold.
Reports in BBC Sport also suggest the 22-year-old could join Sporting Lisbon for £15.5m, which would see Wolves receive around £3m.
Trincao was a regular for Wolves last season, scoring three goals in 30 games. He was reunited at the club with Pedro Neto after the pair played youth football together in Portugal for Vilanese and Praga.
Despite being just 22, Trincao has already racked up 165 club appearances across Portugal, Spain and England.
He has struggled to find the net regularly though, with just 21 goals since 2016, and never more than nine in a season.
The Portuguese national side have taken notice of the young winger, who has made seven senior appearances since 2020 as well as 53 youth for various youth sides.
The decision not to sign Trincao is an interesting one from Wolves given the speculation over a number of their key players' futures.
Crystal Palace, Southampton and Nottingham Forest are all looking to sign Wolves' starlet Morgan Gibbs-White after he bagged 12 goals in 37 games on loan at Sheffield United.
There is also a chance Joao Moutinho could leave after contract talks stalled due to a disagreement on the length of his new deal.
Bruno Lage's side has been linked with a number of transfers, including a potential £40m move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Matheus Nunes, but they are yet to make a significant signing.
Wolves fans will be eager for that to change as they look to match their impressive 10th place finish from last season.
