Wolves sack Edwards after seven months in charge

Wolves have sacked head coach Rob Edwards after just seven months in charge.

Edwards was tasked with keeping Wolves in the Premier League, taking over from Vitor Pereira in November, but was unable to do so as they finished bottom of the league.

The 43-year-old, who was also relegated with Luton Town in 2024-25, won just three of his 27 Premier League matches in charge of Wolves (L15 D20), with his side scoring just 20 goals across those games.

Edwards looked on course to guide Middlesbrough back to the Premier League at the start of the 2025-26 campaign, but opted to take on the challenge at Wolves instead.

Wolves executive chairman Nathan Shi said: "I would like to personally thank Rob and his staff for everything they have given to Wolves during what has been a very difficult period in the club’s recent history.

"Rob accepted the challenge of returning to Wolves at a time when the situation was extremely challenging, and throughout his time here he has conducted himself with professionalism, integrity and commitment.

"Our decision was not about character, professionalism or dedication. It was about determining what we believe gives Wolves the strongest opportunity to move forward from a sporting perspective."

Wolves have already begun their rebuild, completing the signings of Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez on free transfers.

The club are reportedly close to appointing Cesar Peixoto as their new head coach.
