Leroy Sane remains a transfer target for Bayern Munich, despite Manchester City's desire to keep the young winger at the Etihad.
A contract offer remains on the table for the German, which shows just how highly he is rated by manager Pep Guardiola.
City have undoubtedly missed the injured Sane's directness from the left flank this season.
And it seems that is a situation they will have to get used to as transfer speculation continues to link the youngster with a move to the German champions in the next transfer window.
It was Guardiola who first brought Sane to City, and now he needs to unearth a new wonderkid to play on the left-hand side of his attack.
Here are some possible options, ranging from established stars to 17-year-olds yet to make the breakthrough...
Achraf Hakimi
Borussia Dortmund's scouting network is among the best in the world, but perhaps these days it is a little too effective for its own good.
They found another gem in Hakimi, although he will only be in Germany temporarily as he is currently on loan from Real Madrid.
The Spanish giants may think twice about letting Hakimi leave temporarily again, with the 21-year-old Moroccan bagging 10 assists in 25 Bundesliga matches this season. He also has four goals in eight Champions League outings.
As good a dribbler as he is a crosser, Hakimi's direct style of football means he could even turn out to be an upgrade on Sane.
Paulinho
Bayer Leverkusen's lively teenager generally plays as a central attacking midfielder, but his pace, directness and excellent runs after playing a one-two make him perfectly suited to replace Sane's movement on the left.
Paulinho has only started one league match since moving to the Bundesliga two years ago but has appeared 21 times off the bench, using his speed to re-energise his team against tiring legs.
He possesses an excellent long-range shot, but it is the ability to use creative team-mates as a wall during direct runs down the flanks that really mark him out. In time, Paulinho should become one of Europe's best wingers.
Diego Lainez
The 19-year-old came through Club America's academy, making his senior competitive debut in March 2017, becoming the third youngest in the club's history to do so.
Lainez showed enough despite his tender age - five goals in 50 appearances - to earn a move to Spanish side Real Betis in January 2019. He signed a five-year deal reportedly worth €14million.
Having represented Mexico from U17 level all the way through to the senior set-up, Lainez predominantly plays off the left-hand side, but counts his versatility as a key strength, along with his dribbling and ability to beat a man.
Lainez was starting to get a regular run in the Betis side before injury cut his season short.
Talles Magno
Undoubtedly the rawest player on this list, and very much one for the future.
By all accounts, Talles Magno is the next skillful Brazilian to follow in the footsteps of Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo with a big-money move.
He is a tall, silky player who jinks and darts on the touchline with classic Brazilian flair. That sort of thing doesn't always go down well with Guardiola, but at such a tender age the City manager could sculpt the teenager into the new Sane.
The 17-year-old has started 12 senior games for Vasco in Brazil this season, suggesting he is capable of competing with much older and more experienced players.
