Zidane Iqbal has named Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes and Lisandro Martinez as his Manchester United role models.
Iqbal, 19, was considered one of the academy's finest prospects last season and he was chosen by Erik ten Hag to travel on the first-team tour of Thailand and Australia in pre-season, which gave him the opportunity to play in all four matches.
The midfielder was handed his debut by Ralf Rangnick in the Champions League against BSC Young Boys last year and he's been involved in the majority of matchday squads this season, despite not playing for the first-team so far this term.
Ten Hag is understood to be an admirer of Iqbal and the youngster's next challenge is to break into the first-team starting line up.
He's already considered part of the squad, having trained with the first-team all season, and he has now opened up about his experience at Carrington, explaining that Casemiro, Eriksen, Fernandes and Martinez have all made an impression on him.
“I’m learning every day, not just from the players but from the staff, the sports scientists, the nutritionists,” Iqbal told GQ magazine. “I’m not just learning from one single player. Watching people like Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes.
"I learn a lot from them about how they play. I’m blessed to be surrounded by so many top-level athletes. In training, we do mini-games and everyone’s taking it seriously, everyone’s playing to win, it lifts the standard a lot.
"Licha [Lisandro Martinez] takes every training session like it’s his last. I’m learning things like giving it 100 per cent every single day, with the right mentality and attitude.
"I hope I can [become role model for players of his background]. However, I do know that I’m still young and still on my journey. All I can do is work hard and if I’m inspiring people along the way, then that’s great.”
