‘Classic Pepe’ - Fans mock ex-Real Madrid star for trademark crunching tackle

There are three certainties in life; death, taxes, and Pepe getting booked.

So it proved once more as the former Real Madrid man made his second debut for Porto in the Portuguese Cup on Tuesday evening.

Having been released from his contract at Besiktas, the 35-year-old has re-signed for the club where he made his name as a tough tackling centre back, and he did nothing to shed that description on his return.

Playing against Leixoes for a place in the last four, the defender opted for a trademark lunge that appeared to almost reduce his opponent to tears.

He was duly shown a yellow card, but some watching were just pleased to have the old Pepe back.

One viewer wrote: 'Great Pepe tackle that, worse than Boly’s as well,' referring to the tackle that saw the Wolves defender sent off against Manchester City on Monday.

Another simply stated: 'Classic Pepe.'

Pepe had been doing well to keep hs powder dry having not seen red since April last year.

That was when he lit the blue touch paper on a fiery istanbul derby with a two-footed lunge on Fenerbahce's Josef de Souza.

Pepe signed a two-and-a-half year deal last week at Porto.

he spent three seasons at the club from 2004-07, winning two league titles before a £27million move to Real Madrid.
