Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella has congratulated the Women's team after they successfully booked their place in the Champions League semi-finals.

The Spaniard took to Instagram to comment his appreciation of the achievement of Emma Hayes' side, who progressed on penalties.

Numerous times the tie looked over for the ladies. However, a 128th minute penalty from Maren Mjelde sent the tie to spot kicks, where the Blues were successful.

A number of Chelsea first team stars were present at Stamford Bridge to support the side. Manager Graham Potter and Reece James, no doubt keen to watch his sister, Lauren, joined Cucurella in attendance.

The Spain international in particular sent his congratulations on Instagram, commenting “let's go” on a post of the team celebrating.

The achievement is one that should not be downplayed, as the Blues knocked out the reigning champions of the competition.

This is a feat the men's team will have to complete it they are to advance to the same stage of their tournament.

They were drawn against Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of the competition, and the Spanish side beat the Blues last year on their route to European glory.

Chelsea made it to this stage of the Champions League after a sensational performance at Stamford Bridge against Borussia Dortmund.

After losing the first leg 1-0, a stellar showing when the pressure was at its highest on manager Potter saw them run out 2-0 winners.

The game has so far proven to be the return of Cucurella to form, after a number of games out of the side completely.

Playing left centre-back behind Ben Chilwell, he has looked far more comfortable in recent weeks, even seeing him close in on a call-up back to the Spain team alongside Kepa Arrizabalaga.
