“Mexicans don’t learn, they hate Argentines, and they keep hiring Argentines”

Chivas is close to finalizing Gabriel Milito as its new manager. Once again, the red-and-white board appears to be turning to an Argentine coach—a decision that has stirred controversy. Argentine journalist Toti Pasman harshly criticized the Mexican club for continuing to favor managers from his country.

The recent tenures of Fernando Gago at Chivas and Martín Anselmi at Cruz Azul left a poor impression of Argentine coaches in Liga MX.

Nevertheless, Mexican clubs remain committed to the Argentine coaching pedigree, and Guadalajara is reportedly set to place its trust in Gabriel Milito for the upcoming Apertura 2025. Naturally, the move has sparked widespread debate.

‘Mexicans need a psychologist. They hate Argentines, but they keep hiring them’

From Argentina, critics mock and condemn Mexican clubs for their ongoing preference for Argentine talent. Pasman, a commentator for DS Sports, did not hold back in his assessment. “Mexicans don’t learn. They hire Gago, then he goes to Boca, they dump him. ‘Bofo’ Bautista says he’s garbage, this and that. A new season begins, and they go looking for another Argentine coach.”

He added, “Sure, Milito isn’t Gago, but what if tomorrow Independiente or the Argentine national team calls him? He might just walk out on Chivas and head back home,” Pasman said during the show De Fútbol se Habla Así.

Pasman’s criticism didn’t stop there. He referenced the Mexican national team’s struggles and recent tensions between Messi and Mexican fans. “Mexicans don’t learn. They cursed out Martino, then went and hired Cocca. At Chivas, they were cursing Gago, now they’re going to bring in Milito. It’s like they have a love-hate relationship with Argentines. They cursed Messi in Qatar, and now they’re obsessed with Argentine football—lining up to watch Messi and cheering on Argentine players. Mexicans need a psychologist. They hate Argentines, but they keep hiring them. Make up your minds,” he declared.

Argentine coaches in Liga MX

If Milito’s appointment is confirmed, he would become the sixth Argentine coach in Liga MX for the Apertura 2025. Although the move is still unconfirmed—especially after the club’s failed attempt to land Domènec Torrent—Milito remains the top candidate.
