Jurgen Klopp has directed an opening barb at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer by suggesting it is 'strange' to see a team of Manchester United's quality playing in such a defensive style against his Liverpool side.
Speaking ahead of their Premier League clash this Sunday, Klopp said: 'It's strange when you play a high-quality team, which United still are and they play the way they do.'
'We had that last week with Tottenham,' he added. 'They don't only counter-attack but it's a main thing.
'Against Spurs we had 80% possession after 70 mins, that is not normal. If people want to see it as criticism, I can't change this.'
Sunday's upcoming bout often carries so much history, of which Klopp is more than aware of.
'I don't know about results but in games with United and Liverpool, there have been good times for both. Not always one clear favorite.
'We all know how important it is to our supporters, just like Everton - it is an add-on. We play all games for our fans, not just these games. We have natural enemies that come with the history and success of this club. We said long ago, we have to write our own history.
