Barcelona chiefs have had a meeting in Doha with former player Xavi to discuss becoming their new manager according to RAC1.

Sporting director Eric Abidal and CEO Oscar Grau met with the club's former player on Friday.

Xavi is the manager of Qatar outfit Al Sadd and the Catalan giants believe he is the man to replace under pressure Ernesto Valverde.

The Barcelona boss has admitted that talk about whether he will remain in charge at the Nou Camp is 'inevitable' after his side crashed out of the Spanish Super Cup to Atletico Madrid on Thursday.

The Catalan giants were on course to face rivals Real Madrid in the final of the competition at the weekend.

However two late goals from Atletico's Alvaro Morata and Angel Correra saw Diego Simeone's side seal a 3-2 victory.

Valverde, whose current contract at Barcelona is set to expire in June but there is reportedly the option to renew it for another year, is coming under increasing scrutiny.

The 55-year-old remains relaxed and has insisted that talk about his future is understandable.
