Johann Cruyff will soon have a statue outside of the stadium already named after him after Ajax fans raised a whopping £66,000 in three months toward it.

Donations were raised online and through collections at matches after supporters pitched in their money since the fundraiser began in August.

Discussions have began to decide who will be the artist to complete the statue and where it will be placed, with a decision to be decided before the end of the year.

The money was raised via an online donation page as well as at Ajax's clash with AZ Alkmaar on October 7.

Ajax's stadium was previously known as the Amsterdam Arena, but was renamed the Johann Cruyff Arena for the start of this season following his death in 2016.

Cruyff started his career at Ajax and played for them from 1964 to 1973, helping them to three successive European Cups.

He also won the Ballon D'or on three separate occasions in an illustrious career and is dubbed for revolutionising the game in Holland and the rest of Europe, with Pep Guardiola one of the people to have taken inspiration from his style of play.
