Match Report

Ivan Toney scored two goals before providing the assist for the winner as Al-Ahli ended Al-Nassr's unbeaten start to the Saudi Pro League season with a 3-2 win.

The English striker's brace inside 20 minutes looked to send Al-Ahli on their way to a routine win over the league leaders, but Abdulelah Al Amri scored two goals of his own to restore parity before Merih Demiral headed in the winner.

Toney's opener came after just seven minutes as he tapped home from Galeno's centre, and he doubled the hosts' advantage as he beat the offside trap from Ali Majrashi's long ball before slotting past Nawaf Al Aqidi.

However, Al-Nassr were let back into the game in an inexplicable fashion as Al Amri's tame long shot was spilt into his own net by Al-Ahli goalkeeper Adbulrahman Al Sanbi, while the defender then scored a second before the break when he headed in from Marcelo Brozovic's corner.

The match-defining moment then came in the 55th minute as Toney sent a cross from a free-kick back across the box for Demiral to nod in, with the Turkish centre-back managing to evade a defender on the line with his header.

Cristiano Ronaldo squandered a golden chance to equalise when he stumbled on the ball when receiving a pass, while Joao Felix saw a late effort blocked around the post as Al-Ahli looked to hold on for all three points.

They were set for a nervy finish when captain Majrashi was sent off in stoppage time after he struck Joao Felix in the face, but the numbers were equalled when Nawaf Bu Washl also saw red for a last man challenge.

Data Debrief: Toney reaches 30 for Al-Ahli

It was a deserved win, to say the least, for Ah-Ahli. They produced 3.37 expected goals from 15 attempts to Al-Nassr's 0.87 from 19 shots.

Toney has now scored 31 goals in 31 Saudi Pro League matches, becoming the fifth player to reach 30+ goals for Al‑Ahli in the competition.

He is also the third‑quickest to reach 30 league goals for the club, after Omar Al‑Somah (31 matches) and Victor Simoes (36).
