Alexis Sanchez has admitted he is already looking towards life after Manchester United and dreams of finishing his career in Chile.

The frontman confessed he would love to end up playing with Universidad de Chile, the side he and his family support and the club where national legend Marcelo Salas started and ended his career.

The under-the-spotlight striker, who Rio Ferdinand has described as looking like a 'shadow of his former self', also claimed he reacts better to pressure in an interview with a Chilean TV station.

Former Arsenal star Sanchez, who was criticised after United's Champions League defeat against Seville on Tuesday, said: 'The pressure doesn't play against me, it helps me.

'The more pressure I'm under, the better I feel. I feel like an important player at world level.

'Being the best-paid in the Premier League fills me with pride at being Chilean.'

The 29-year-old, who only put pen to paper on a £23million-a-year deal with United in January and is believed to have almost tripled his Arsenal salary by earning £350,000-a-week plus bonuses, also hinted his current club won't be his last.

He told a Chilevision TV reporter during an interview broadcast on Wednesday in his homeland that playing for Universidad de Chile was a dream of Jose Delaigue, the man he describes as dad rather than his real father Guillermo Soto.

Sanchez was devastated by the death of Jose from liver cancer in May 2011 aged 74.

The forward played for Universidad de Chile's rivals Colo Colo before a spell in Argentina ahead of his move to former side Barcelona.

But he confirmed last month that like his adoptive dad he supported 'La U', as Universidad de Chile, who have won the national league title 18 times, are known in his homeland.

Revealing his plans to end up with one of Chile's most successful sides of all time, he told Chilevision TV: 'I think it would be my family's dream.

'My father who is now in Heaven was a supporter of La U and I think the truth is that a lot of my family would like me to end up there.

'My dad was the pillar of the family and sometimes people do things for their family as well.

'I played for Colo Colo and the truth is that it was great and I won a lot of things with them, but I think people are going to understand it because its a dream my dad had and god willing I am going to fulfil it.'

Insisting he is still at heart the youngster who used to enjoy kickarounds with friends on a dirt pitch in his home city of Tocopilla, despite the millions he now banks every year, he added: 'My dream was always to be a footballer and help my family. Today I touch a ball and I'm happy.'

Universidad de Chile reacted to Alexis' comments by posting heart and kiss emojis on its Twitter site.

They were met with a mixed reaction by supporters of La U.

One proud supporter said: 'We're not here to receive people who don't sign to fulfil their dreams, but the dreams of others.'

But another added: 'I always knew it when I spoke with Alexis' relatives. It was obvious this is his home.'
