Alphonso Davies: Robben introduced himself to me, I just couldn't believe it

At 19 years old, Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies has already achieved more in his career than many would dream of.

The left-back joined Bayern in January 2019 from Vancouver Whitecaps in his home nation of Canada and has continued to rise through the ranks -  earning himself a recent contract extension until 2025 with the club.

However, Davies explained that he still felt starstruck on the day he arrived to join the German giants, and didn't believe that Arjen Robben was real.

'It was both exciting and scary. I just had to prove to myself that I could compete at this level,' he explained to Gary Lineker in an interview for UNHCR.

'I’d watched these guys on TV since I was a kid and there I was, seeing them in person, training with them and playing with them.

I was intimidated. When Arjen Robben introduced himself to me, I just couldn’t believe it. I mean, I didn't think it was the real guy.'

Davies has quickly become a mainstay in the Bayern starting line-up and is proving to be a worthy protege to long-standing club legend David Alaba.

He also played a crucial part in Bayern's 3-0 destruction of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Champions League. He assisted Robert Lewandowski's late goal and won man of the match to later admit he used to support Chelsea at a young age.

He explained: 'My dad really liked Didier Drogba and there was always a Chelsea game on when I was growing up. There were so many amazing teams to watch but I didn’t particularly have a team. So it was Chelsea by force.'

Football isn't Davies' only passion, however, as he has become quite the sensation on social media service TikTok.

The defender has been known to post some funny videos to entertain his fans and told Lineker that he wants to be an actor one day.

'Football comes first, but I want to be an actor eventually.I like entertaining people and TikTok gives me the platform to do so.

'It allows fans to not only see what I do on the field, but also to get to know my personality a bit more. And it passes the time during the corona crisis when we are all staying home.'
