Ruben Amorim and Manchester United are expected to be busy in the upcoming summer transfer window and the club are already moving closer to sealing one major signing

Manchester United are poised to make Wolves forward Matheus Cunha their first summer signing, with a deal for the Brazil star now said to be 'in the final stages' following talks between the club and the player's camp.

United are among a number of clubs who have been linked with Cunha in the wake of the 25-year-old's impressive form this season. And while Cunha may have signed a new deal with the Black Country outfit back in January, his suitors know that he can move in the summer if they are willing to meet his £62.5million release clause.

It's United, though, who appear to have firmed up their interest in recent days - and a deal which would take Cunha to Old Trafford in the summer is now edging closer.

As first revealed by Brazilian outlet Globo, 'significant progress' has been made this week on a deal, with an agreement between the two parties now close.

United are keen to get their work done early in the summer window after enduring their worst ever Premier League campaign. Ruben Amorim is a big fan of Cunha, who would fit in perfectly as one of the two No.10's in Amorim's preferred 3-4-2-1 formation.

Cunha has 14 Premier League goals to his name this term plus a further four assists. Arsenal and Newcastle are among the other teams who have courted the former Atletico Madrid man.

United have struggled badly for goals this season with Amorim predominantly working with the squad he inherited from Erik ten Hag back in November.

Former United defender Gary Neville feels Cunha would be a good fit for the Portuguese's favoured system and that signing him would be a step in the right direction.

"He suits this system that Ruben Amorim wants to play," Neville told Sky Sports. "They've lost three players who fill that position so they need to fill those roles or they're going to struggle. They need to score goals, Manchester United.

"You need players who can takes risks, are good in the final third and Cunha's got a lot of ability. If I was playing against him, I wouldn't like a player with a bit of fight, some of the best players in the world had a spike to them. I love a player with a character."
