San Diego FC’s Danish forward Anders Dreyer has been named Major League Soccer’s Player of the Week for Matchday 31, following a standout performance in Sunday Night Soccer that helped his team secure a dramatic 2–1 comeback win over Los Angeles FC at BMO Stadium.

Dreyer delivers

The 27-year-old playmaker was instrumental in San Diego’s victory, assisting Hirving Lozano’s equalizer and scoring the game-winner himself to spoil Heung-Min Son’s home debut for LAFC.

Dreyer’s impact wasn’t just felt on the scoreboard—it was a statement performance that solidified his status as one of the league’s elite.

With 14 goals and 18 assists, Dreyer now leads MLS in total goal contributions for the 2025 season (32), tying Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s tally for the second-most contributions in a debut campaign. Only Sebastian Giovinco’s 38 contributions in 2015 stand ahead of him.

Could Dreyer threaten Messi for the MVP?

This is the second time Anders Dreyer has received recognition as the Man of the Week in MLS 2025, as it’s important to remember that he was selected as the “Player of the Week” on the opening day. San Diego’s number 10 is considered one of the year’s most outstanding players and is definitely in the conversation for the 2025 MVP.

Although Messi appears as the player with the greatest number of these recognitions (5) and it is evident that the impact of Inter Miami’s ’10′ is extremely important in a smaller number of matches, the truth is that Dreyer is a serious candidate for his consistency and regularity, just like FC Cincinnati’s Evander, who has also had an superb campaign.
