Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has admitted he needs a new defender sooner rather than later

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has sent chairman Daniel Levy a thinly-veiled message regarding his desire to sign a new defender during the summer transfer window.

Spurs have recruited three players so far this summer, bringing in goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, playmaker James Maddison and winger Manor Solomon, with loan moves for Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro also made permanent. But there is a clear need to bolster the backline, with at least one centre-back needed.

The Lilywhites have held talks with Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen regarding Micky van de Ven and Edmond Tapsoba respectively and the north London outfit also retain an interest in Fulham star Tosin Adarabioyo. football.london understands there is a growing expectation that Tottenham will make a bid for Adarabioyo and the player is thought to be keen on a move to N17 as well.

"I’ve been around long enough to know how it works. I wish it could be like my wife and Amazon where we get a delivery every day, but no frustration.”

The former Celtic boss took a similar approach last week when asked about his side's need for defensive reinforcements, admitting to football.london that he wanted more options in central defence before Spurs get their Premier League campaign underway against Brentford next month. "Yeah, I think that's definitely our intention, absolutely," he said.

"We've been working on it for a while and we'll definitely try to get it done as quickly as possible."
