Apple TV+ announces MLS docuseries ahead of the 2024 season

Apple TV+ will present an eight-part MLS documentary series later this year chronicling the upcoming 2024 season in North American soccer.

The project will be produced by filmmakers who have previously worked on Netflix's award-winning Formula One docuseries Drive To Survive.

The MLS series is currently in production with plenty of heightened excitement around North America's top-flight soccer league ahead of its new season.

Lionel Messi is about to embark on his first full campaign with Inter Miami, having sparked a frenzy in the States when he moved to DRV PNK Stadium last summer and inspired his new team to a first ever trophy in the Leagues Cup.

Miami also reached the US Open Cup final and came close to resurrecting an MLS playoff spot thanks to Messi's opening run of 11 goals in 14 games, and now the Barcelona and Argentina legend is set for his first full year at the club.

The docuseries currently doesn't have a name, but will offer 'both dedicated fans and new audiences a definitive, never-before-seen insider’s view into the league while spotlighting all of the biggest moments of the 2024 season,' per a press release.

The series will dive deep into the entire 2024 MLS season, although a timeline for when the series will air on Apple TV+ is yet to be released.

Netflix's Drive to Survive has released five seasons, with an annual premiere in the first quarter of every year since 2019.

This will be the first MLS season since 2016 with no expansion teams joining the now-29-team league.

Apple has also held onto MLS' broadcasting rights for the second season in a 10-year deal.

Apple TV+ has produced fictional soccer series such as 'Ted Lasso' in the past and has also entered the docuseries genre with 'Messi Meets America,' a six-episode series that was also produced alongside MLS.
