Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham side have become known for their high intensity non-stop playing style.
It is one of the reasons why they have managed to shoot up the table under the Argentinian manager. But few of the secrets behind that success are known by the general public.
One of the reasons might be the use of blackcurrants by the nutritional team at Tottenham. A study by the University of Chichester has revealed they dramatically improve running performance in footballers.
Use of the fruit showed reduced slowing of sprint times during repeated high-intensity sprint tests.
And academy footballers experienced 12 per cent less fatigue, which is of note given a disproportionate number of goals are scored in the last 15 minutes.
Following the research, a number of Premier League sides have been using the supplement CurraNZ to improve their players' performance, with Spurs one of the first to latch onto the product.
Hannah Sheridan, first-team nutritionist at Spurs, said: 'I use CurraNZ amongst the athletes to help them perform at their peak and recover quickly and effectively.
'During periods of intensified training such as pre-season or at altitude camps, athletes require a higher intake of anti-oxidants, which is where a natural supplement such as CurraNZ plays a huge role in recovery.
'I've also had athletes experience overtraining syndrome which has disappeared within a week of using CurraNZ'.
