Granit Xhaka has vowed to improve his relationship with Arsenal fans and never leave the club until they win 'something special' together.
Gunners supporters have been critical of Xhaka for a number of years, though it was his reaction to jeers during their 2019 draw against Crystal Palace which left them furious.
While being substituted, the Swiss midfielder was subjected to boos from the home crowd after an underwhelming display, and he responded by clapping sarcastically, cupping his ear and appearing to tell them to 'f*** off'.
He was stripped of the captaincy by former boss Unai Emery as a result, and in the two-and-a-half years that have followed he has been scrutinised even further for a number of disciplinary issues and errors.
But in a snippet of his interview with The Players' Tribune, Xhaka insists he is determined to win over Arsenal fans and 'be closer with them' off the pitch.
'I want to have a better relationship with the people outside, with the fans,' he said.
'To be closer with them. We never meet them, we never have a conversation with them. They are only seeing us on the pitch, for 90 minutes, and goodbye.
'They don't know how we trained before, they don't know how you feel, they don't know if you have problems with your family, they don't know a lot of points.
'After the season I still have two years contract here. I will give everything until I'm at this football club. I always say that. I didn't sign a new contract to be here for… enjoy my time and that's it.
'No, no, I want to achieve something with this club, something special. And before that, I don't leave.'
Xhaka has made 242 appearances in his time at Arsenal, scoring 13 goals and winning two FA Cups.
He put pen to paper on a contract extension back in August, keeping him at the Emirates until 2024 with the option of a further 12 months included.
