Arsenal are reportedly leading the race to sign Borussia Dortmund centre back Sokratis Papastathopoulos this summer.

The German side have a reputation as a selling club and an article by Bild — titled 'Next star away in the summer' — claims that Papastathopoulos is set to be their latest high-profile departee.

Greek international Papastathopoulos is said to be available for £17.5million.

Although Arsenal are seen as the favourites to sign him, Manchester United, Chelsea and Juventus are also credited with interest.

Papastathopoulos has been a regular starter for Dortmund since joining them from Werder Bremen in 2003.

Prior to his time in Germany, the 6ft 1in defender had stints in Serie A with Genoa and AC Milan, having started his senior career with AEK Athens in his homeland.

Arsenal's need for defensive reinforcements has been highlighted by their current run of six games without a clean sheet in all competitions.

The Gunners failed to beat 10-man Atletico Madrid on Thursday night after a mistake from experienced centre back Laurent Koscielny allowed fellow Frenchman Antoine Griezmann to latch onto a long ball.
