Arsenal handed timely injury boost with captain Martin Odegaard BACK in training

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has returned to training ahead of the Gunners' Champions League meeting with Inter Milan.

The Norway international has been out of action since he was injured playing for his country against Austria in September. Mikel Arteta's side have found things tough in his absence, suffering their first two Premier League defeats of the season away to Bournemouth and Newcastle.

In October, Norwegian international manager Stale Solbakken indicated the midfielder was in contention to return in time for the November international break. He appears to still be on schedule, and was snapped at London Colney as Arteta's squad trained ahead of their meeting with Inter.

The European tie is one of two big matches for the Gunners before their players head off on international duty. They're up against Chelsea on Sunday in a big London derby, where three points could help revive a title charge which has faltered in recent weeks.

Arteta was asked about Odegaard, and about Arsenal's other injury victims, in the lead-up to Saturday's trip to Newcastle. Riccardo Calafiori was among the others out on the sidelines, with the manager confirming neither would be involved at St James' Park.

"Riccy and Martin are out definitely," he told reporters. "With Ben [White] we don’t know yet. He could not train so let’s see what happens."

White was fit enough for the bench against Newcastle, while fellow defender Gabriel started after an injury scare in the draw with Liverpool. However, Arsenal still fell to a narrow defeat as Alexander Isak scored the only goal of the game.

Arsenal have played seven times in the league since Odegaard was injured, picking up 11 points from those matches. They have fallen to fifth place in the Premier League table, seven behind league leaders Liverpool.

Results have been more consistent in Europe, where Arteta's team have yet to concede a goal. They drew 0-0 with Atalanta in their opener before beating Paris Saint-Germain and Shakhtar Donetsk at home.

Midweek opponents Inter also have seven points from their three games, and sit just above the Gunners on goal difference in the overall Champions League table. They drew 0-0 with Manchester City before a comprehensive 4-0 victory at home to Crvena Zvezda, before Marcus Thuram scored a late winner away to Young Boys last time out.
