Arsenal are set to seal a deal for Espanyol star Joan Garcia that will see him become their first summer signing.

The Spanish goalkeeper has had plenty of interest in his services this summer, with a number of English clubs being linked along with Spanish giants Real Madrid.

But it appears that the Gunners have won the race for Garcia’s services and will announce his arrival imminently. According to reports in Spain, the 23-year-old will become an Arsenal player ‘soon’.

At this stage, it is unclear how much the Gunners will pay for Garcia. He has four years remaining on his contract with Espanyol.

Garcia made 21 appearances in all competitions for the Spanish side last term as they earned promotion to La Liga. He was asked about his future towards the end of the campaign and remained tight-lipped on a potential move.

“I have always felt the love of the fans,” Garcia said. “I'm very happy that people are with me. And for that part (transfers), don’t worry, I’m very good here and above all I would ask you to be calm and encourage us.”

Should Arsenal secure a deal for Garcia’s services, it could leave boss Mikel Arteta with a tricky decision. David Raya was signed on loan from Brentford last term and is expected to complete a £27m permanent move to the Emirates.

Speaking about a move for his compatriot at the end of the season, Arteta said : "Those conversations are for after the season. We will review where we are.

"Obviously, we are really happy with David and everything he has brought to the club and the team, there is no question about it. But, those decisions are taken by all of us at the club and we will see."

Aaron Ramsdale also faces an uncertain future with the Gunners. He fell out of contention last term following the arrival of Raya.

He has been linked with a move, with previous reports suggesting that Newcastle had agreed a deal with Arsenal to sign the former Sheffield United and Bournemouth man. They now appear to have moved their attention to Burnley ’s James Trafford.

Arteta has since confirmed that he expects Ramsdale to stay in North London. The 26-year-old has just two years remaining on his current Arsenal deal. Arteta said: “A suggestion? There is a big reality that Aaron will be here because he is our player and has a contract.”

Away from goalkeepers, Arsenal have also been linked with forwards this summer. Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres are among their potential recruits.
