Arsenal told to sign Liverpool star who would be 'like gold' in sensational

Darwin Nunez hasn't been in the best of form this season, but the Liverpool striker has been singled out as the perfect fit for rivals Arsenal.

That's according to former Reds star Didi Hamann, who has urged the Gunners to move for the Uruguay international in the summer. Arsenal are currently in the midst of an attacking injury crisis, with Gabriel Jesus' ACL injury potentially keeping him out of the start of next season, and plenty of frontmen have been linked.

Mikel Arteta failed to add a new striker in January, with Aston Villa knocking back a bid for Ollie Watkins. RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko still looks likely to join in the summer, but alternatives have been floated.

One of those is Nunez, whose struggles this term have prompted talk of a Liverpool exit. He struggled against Villa on Wednesday, with Watkins on target in a 2-2 draw, but Hamann maintains the former Benfica star has something to offer Arteta's side.

"The only real question mark I have about Arsenal’s squad is the centre forward position. And I think even Darwin Nunez, I think Nunez would be gold for Arsenal," Hamann told Prime Casino. "Because I think if you've got somebody up top who bullies defenders, who draws defenders in, he always gets the attention of two or three defenders.

"Obviously, he’s a big unit. He’s quick. The game changes. If you've got somebody up top with a physical presence, with pace, it's a different ballgame.

"They always find space, Arsenal, but it also makes it easier for the likes of [Bukayo] Saka and [Gabriel] Martinelli and [Martin] Odegaard when they get into these pockets because quick players stretch teams. They simply haven't got it. I think even a Nunez would be a brilliant addition to the squad, but it’s too late for that now and they have to make do with what they have."

Nunez has scored just six goals this season, though that included a brace to secure a last-gasp win at Brentford in January. He had a golden chance to deliver another win at Villa Park on Wednesday night, only to fire over with the goal gaping.

"Not so happy, to be honest," Liverpool boss Arne Slot told TNT Sports after the game, with Nunez not the only player to squander a big chance. "We created far more chances than them and created chances to win. But we also conceded from a set piece.

"If you are 1-0 down it is far from easy. Their second chance was a goal, was a cross, but they may have won it in the final moments but when you put all the chances together, I am not happy with the 2-2."
