Arsenal's £55m Guimaraes bid rejected, second offer coming soon

According to the latest report from The Daily Mail, Arsenal's £55 million bid for Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has been rejected. The Gunners plan to submit a second offer, but Newcastle's stance is unlikely to change, with the club considering Guimaraes a "non-negotiable" player.

Reports emerged this week that Arsenal has targeted the 28-year-old Brazilian international and begun negotiations with his agent. However, Newcastle United has remained resolute, explicitly stating that Guimaraes is a "non-negotiable" asset.

The Daily Mail reported that despite Newcastle's firm stance, Arsenal is preparing a fresh offer expected to be submitted to the Magpies soon. However, Newcastle United is unlikely to soften its position.

Guimaraes is currently with the Brazil national team, where he joins Arsenal teammates Gabriel and Martinelli. Although Guimaraes has not expressed a desire to leave Newcastle, transfer speculation continues to mount.

The former Lyon player joined Newcastle in January 2022 and has two years remaining on his contract. During his time at St. James' Park, Guimaraes has made 195 appearances, scoring 31 goals, and helped Newcastle win the League Cup in the 2024/25 season, ending a long trophy drought for the club.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is keen to strengthen the midfield to challenge for the Premier League title, with Guimaraes a top target. If signed, Guimaraes would compete for a starting position with Rice, Zubimendi, Eze, Odegaard, and Lewis-Skelly, intensifying competition in midfield.

Former Tottenham and Fulham striker Darren Bent believes Guimaraes would struggle to secure regular first-team football at Arsenal under Arteta. Speaking to talkSPORT, Bent said: "If he wants to play in the Champions League and compete for titles, he has to accept being a rotation player."

"He can't join a top team and walk straight into the starting XI. Maybe at Manchester United, but Arsenal just won the Premier League. However, I don't think that's Bruno's main concern. I believe Arsenal's biggest need is on the left wing, and any remaining budget should address other positions first."

In March this year, reports linked Manchester United with Guimaraes in "deep talks." Newcastle manager Eddie Howe quickly dismissed the speculation as "pure nonsense."

At the time, Howe said: "I don't know how to respond to this. I don't think it warrants a response—it's a complete waste of energy. With respect, this isn't the occasion to be serious. In my view, this is fake news."

"Bruno Guimaraes is our captain and completely loyal to the team. He is currently recovering from injury, and his sole focus is regaining fitness. A transfer is not a consideration at this time."

"In summer, transfer rumors are understandable given the window is open. But to suggest our captain is discussing moves with other clubs is, first and foremost, hugely disrespectful to Bruno, who is entirely committed to this team."
