27' GOAL! Man Utd 1-0 Everton (Pogba)

Pickford with a superb stop to deny Pogba from the penalty spot, he dived to his right and got a strong hand to the ball to stop it going into the back of the net. However, the rebound falls straight to Pogba...

Pogba converts the rebound. Pickford will feel hard done by, but the rebound fell perfectly to Pogba and he had a tap-in from just a couple of yards out.

31' OFFSIDE! Rashford's goal disallowed

Rashford has the ball in the back of the net, but it is ruled out for offside. Pogba and Martial play a lovely one-two on the edge of the box, with Pogba firing an effort towards goal, but Pickford makes another superb save.

The rebound then falls to Rashford at the far post, who has a simple tap-in. However, he had just strayed offside.

49' GOAL! Man Utd 2-0 Everton (Martial)

Martial with a terrific curling effort into the bottom corner. The winger received the ball wide on the left and fired a first-time shot at goal, which was perfectly placed and just out of the reach of Pickford.

Pogba has been involved in much of United's attacking play today and he layed the ball off to Martial on the left.

77' PENALTY GOAL! Man Utd 2-1 Everton (Sigurdsson)

Smalling dives into the challenge as Richarlison sprints past him. Nowhere near the ball and the referee immediately points to the spot.

It all came from a mistake from Pogba. The midfielder tries to play an elaborate flick inside his own half, but there was no need for it and Everton nick it back and break into the box.

Sigurdsson stepped up to take the penalty after a discussion with Richarlison who wanted to take it. However, the Iceland international makes no mistakes from the spot-kick, an emphatic penalty past De Gea.

Match Report

Anthony Martial starred as Manchester United overcame a late scare to edge Everton 2-1 at Old Trafford and give Jose Mourinho a much-needed second win in eight matches.

Having reportedly rejected United's initial offer of a new contract, Martial ensured the week ended with the focus firmly on his talents as he created United's first and scored the second in a scintillating display.

The 22-year-old won the penalty that Paul Pogba converted at the second attempt in the 27th minute before lashing home what proved the winner just after half-time.

Chris Smalling, on his 300th United appearance, made their task more difficult than it should have been when his rash challenge allowed Gylfi Sigurdsson to halve the deficit from the spot, but the hosts held firm to quickly move on from their limp Champions League loss to Juventus in midweek.

Romelu Lukaku's omission from the starting XI afforded Martial a prominent role and it was his quick feet that drew the penalty from Idrissa Gueye, who did get a toe to the ball before the attacker's theatrical fall.

Jordan Pickford impressively kept out Pogba's initial effort, but the midfielder's stuttering run-up was spared from more scrutiny as he rolled in a fortunate rebound.

It was a role reversal for United's second as Martial gloriously curled a Pogba pass into the bottom-right corner within four minutes of the restart.

Bernard passed up a chance to drag Everton back into it before Smalling's tackle enabled Sigurdsson to grab a consolation from the spot in the 77th minute.

The margin should ultimately have been greater but Martial finally let his standard slip in the 94th minute, failing to beat Pickford in a one-on-one.
