Tottenham Spurs have officially confirmed that Steven Bergwijn suffers a significant sprain to his left ankle.
The pacey Dutchman only joined the north London outfit in January and has looked impressive in his Spurs career so far, but his progress has been halted after picking up the injury at Turf Moor on Saturday evening.
He joins Harry Kane and Son Heung-min on the sidelines at Tottenham, and leaves just Dele Alli and Lucas Moura as options for Jose Mourinho up front after the Portguese boss insisted youngster Troy Parrott wasn't ready for action.
A Spurs statement read: 'Following assessment and examination by our medical team, we can confirm that Steven Bergwijn suffered a significant sprain to his left ankle during our match against Burnley.
'The Netherlands international will now undergo an extended period of rehabilitation where his progress will continue to be assessed.'
The news is a cruel blow to Mourinho ahead of Tottenham's trip to Leipzig for their Champions League last 16 second leg, where they already faced an uphill task after losing the first leg 1-0.
