Manchester United's Europa League defeat to Astana might have been a dead rubber affair, but try telling that to defender Dmitri Shomko, who is on cloud nine after scoring against the Red Devils.
The 29-year-old defender netted Astana's equaliser in the second half before Di'Shon Bernard's own goal gifted them a famous victory in Kazakhstan.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had fielded a team of academy prospects and fringe players for the game having already wrapped up qualification to the knockout stages, so took it as an opportunity to hand experience to his young stars.
Astana's win is nothing but a consolation as they had been eliminated from the competition after failing to register a point in their first four games, but Shomko is reveling in the victory after picking up their first three points.
'I think we made our supporters happy with our last game this year at our stadium,' he said, speaking to UEFA.
'The emotions are great as we have won the game. Not every year do we have a chance to play against such a top team. It's good that we won today. We hope to God we continue in this vein.'
When asked what he would tell his grandchildren about the game, he responded: 'I'll say, 'There was a time... [when] I scored against Manchester United'.
'It's OK, the main thing is that we won and it doesn't matter who scored. It's just the emotions, it's great that we won. We did everything as we wanted to.'
Shomko has spent his entire career in Kazakhstan and has played 244 games for Astana since joining the club in 2011. He scored against Ireland for his national team in a World Cup qualifier in 2013 as his side lost 3-1.
