According to football-italia, Raúl Asensio's injury makes it much harder for Real Madrid to sign Bastoni.
It is reported that Italian international Bastoni is favored by Mourinho and Real Madrid, but the 15-time Champions League winners' plan to sign the Internazionale center-back has been complicated by Raúl Asensio's injury.
At different stages of the offseason, Bastoni has been linked with transfers to Barcelona and Real Madrid. The latest news from Spanish media "AS" states that Mourinho also wants to sign two new players this summer: one midfielder and one center-back, and the Portuguese coach's target for the defense is Bastoni.
However, Real Madrid's first team currently has five high-paid center-backs: Asensio, Rüdiger, Konate, Huijsen, and Militão. To sign another new center-back, they must first sell existing players.
Militão is currently recovering from injury, Konate just joined the team this summer, Huijsen arrived at Real Madrid a year ago, and Rüdiger just renewed his contract – all signs indicate that if Real Madrid is to sell a center-back this summer, Asensio, who came from the youth academy, is the prime candidate.
However, Real Madrid recently confirmed that Asensio has suffered a muscle injury and is expected to be out for about six weeks.
This means that Asensio's departure before the summer transfer window closes next month is now highly unlikely, and Bastoni's planned move from Internazionale to the Bernabéu has become incredibly complicated as a result.
