Atlético de Madrid has joined the football world in mourning after the tragic deaths of former player Diogo Jota and his brother André in a car accident.
The Spanish club released a heartfelt statement on their official social media channels:
“El Atlético de Madrid está conmocionado por la trágica noticia del fallecimiento de Diogo Jota, exjugador del club, y su hermano André.
Enviamos nuestro más sincero pésame a su familia y seres queridos.

This translates to:
“Atlético de Madrid is deeply shocked by the tragic news of the passing of Diogo Jota, a former player of our club, and his brother André.
We send our most sincere condolences to their family and loved ones.
Rest in peace.”
Diogo Jota, who tragically passed away at the age of 28, spent time with Atlético during the 2016–17 season after signing from Paços de Ferreira. Though he didn’t make a competitive appearance for the club, he was loaned out to FC Porto, where he impressed before moving on to Wolverhampton Wanderers and later Liverpool.
The club’s message adds to the outpouring of grief from across the football community, with teammates, clubs, and fans paying tribute to the Portuguese international and his younger brother.
