Augusto: Inter aiming to compete on all front this season

Inter are aiming to win every competition they remain in after booking their place in the Coppa Italia semi-finals in midweek, so says Carlos Augusto.

Augusto was part of the team that reached the final four by beating Torino on Wednesday, with Cristian Chivu's side winning 2-1 at U-Power Stadium, despite making several changes.

The Nerazzurri have now reached the Coppa Italia semi-finals 19 times across the last 30 seasons, with only Juventus (35) managing to do so on more occasions.

However, Inter's attention now turns back to Serie A, with MAPEI Stadium the venue for their clash with 11th-placed Sassuolo on Sunday.

It is the start of a busy period for the Serie A leaders, who face Juventus in the league next week before the first leg of their Champions League play-off with Bodo/Glimt.

And while Inter finished empty-handed last season, despite going to the latter stages in all competitions in 2025-26, Augusto is confident his team can lift silverware this year.

"We know what happened last season, but we are Inter, we play every tournament aiming to win and will do everything possible to win," Augusto told Sport Mediaset.

One of the standout performers from their Coppa Italia win was Ange-Yoan Bonny, who opened the scoring in the 35th minute against Torino.

His strike meant he has now scored two goals in his last four appearances across all competitions, the same number of goals as in his previous 15 games in Serie A, the Champions League and the Coppa Italia.

Bonny has 12 goal involvements in all competitions this season overall, a total only bettered by Federico Dimarco (14), Marcus Thuram (16) and Lautaro Martinez (23) for Inter.

"Torino are always a complicated opponent, but we are happy that we go through to the next phase," Bonny said of Inter's midweek win.

The striker went off with a cut to his knee, but it does not seem to be anything particularly serious ahead of their trip to Sassuolo.

"In a game like this, you have to do battle, and we're glad we did," Bonny added.

"There are many strikers who are doing well, we are all at the disposal of the team and want to continue like this."

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Sassuolo – Nemanja Matic

Nemanja Matic is one of only two players, alongside AC Milan's Luka Modric, to have made 20 or more appearances in the current top five European leagues since turning 37.

The Sassuolo midfielder has also gained possession more times than any other player in Serie A this season (140), and his experience will be key in this contest.

Inter – Federico Dimarco

A lot of Inter's impressive attacking output has been spearheaded by Dimarco, and the Italian arrives into this fixture hoping to have his say on proceedings.

He has provided eight assists in Serie A this season. No defender has managed more after the first 24 matchdays of a Serie A campaign since the 2004-05 season, with Pablo Armero (2011-12) and Nuno Tavares (2024-25) also providing eight in the same timeframe.

MATCH PREDICTION: INTER WIN

Inter have won six of their last nine Serie A matches against Sassuolo (L3). However, the Nerazzurri have been defeated in two of the most recent three.

But Chivu's side have been in fine form in 2025-26. Indeed, no team in the top five European leagues has achieved more wins (18) or more points (55) than Inter this season (in both cases, level with Barcelona). Additionally, only Bayern Munich (74) and Barcelona (60) have scored more goals than the Nerazzurri (52).

They have also won all of their last seven Serie A away games. Only twice in their top-flight history have they recorded a longer such streak: 11 between October 2006 and March 2007 (with Roberto Mancini as manager) and eight between September 2024 and January 2025 (under Simone Inzaghi).

Sassuolo have, however, won their last two Serie A matches, following a run of three consecutive defeats. The last time they recorded more consecutive victories in the competition was in March 2023 (four).

And they have often done well in this fixture. Sassuolo have won 10 Serie A matches against Inter (D2 L11) – they have not recorded more victories against any other side in the competition (also 10 against Hellas Verona).

Sassuolo have also only lost two of their last ten Serie A matches against Inter in the second half of the season (W6 D2 L2), remaining unbeaten in eight of those games.
