Is a transfer duel brewing here?
Both Bayern and BVB want to make moves in the summer transfer window and strengthen themselves with potential new signings.
In this regard, the heavyweights of the Bundesliga seem to be interested in a transfer of former Bundesliga star Christopher Nkunku (27, from 2019 to 2023 at Leipzig).
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports this. Accordingly, in recent weeks, many clubs – including Bayern and Borussia Dortmund – have called Chelsea about Nkunku.
Bayern is said to have very good relations with Nkunku's advisors. In addition, among others, Inter and Newcastle are also said to have inquired about the former Leipzig player.
Nkunku (market value of 35 million euros) could be particularly interesting for Bayern because he can play in multiple positions - striker, number 10, on the wing.
Fact is: The former Leipzig player has been on the list of the German record champion for months already and could come back into focus, especially after Coman's departure.
Problem: Until recently, he was too expensive. Because Chelsea is demanding a sale and wants around £60 million for it. Bayern would probably only have been willing to pay about £40 million (around €47 million).
And what about BVB?
Actually, there was loose contact between the local club and Nkunku a few weeks ago. Borussia Dortmund is also looking for reinforcements in the striker position. However, signing Nkunku is not financially feasible for Dortmund.
Reason: Not all of the proceeds from the sale of Jamie Gittens (to Chelsea for €65 million) can be reinvested.
Additionally: The commitments of Fabio Silva (23/Wolverhampton) and Carney Chukwuemeka (21/Chelsea) have priority at BVB.
It therefore remains unclear whether Nkunku will soon return to action in the Bundesliga...
