Barcelona’s draw with Getafe followed by death threats

Hansi Flick’s Barça were held by Getafe in a LaLiga game that generated a huge number of talking points.

Barcelona’s draw against Getafe on Saturday generated a huge number of talking points, with Barça president Joan Laporta labelling the performance of the match officials a “disgrace” and a “scandal,” while coach Hansi Flick claimed he had “never experienced anything like” the “emotion in the stadium, in all the actions, in the contacts”.

After the game, feelings were also running high online, leading to several unsavoury comments.

Social media is a double-edged sword that is becoming increasingly dangerous. On one hand, it’s a place where people can stave off boredom, catch up on news, and consume various types of content. On the other hand, it’s a platform where people vent their anger and frustration, often targeting public figures.

Online trolls target Getafe coach Bordalás after Barça game

This weekend, it was the turn of Getafe coach José Bordalás, who inspired his team to the draw at Estadio Coliseo against Barcelona.

The home team’s backs-to-the-wall performance ended with a positive result but infuriated a number of onlookers, some of whom lashed out at the former Valencia manager.

“We’ll kill you and your family,” “we’ll find your kids,” and “rat” were just some of the insults Bordalás received on an Instagram post after the game.

Unfortunately, these kinds of insults are becoming all too common among elite-level soccer players, coaches, sportspeople and celebrities alike, but that doesn’t mean they should be ignored.
