Marcal denies Messi on the line, hooking the ball to safety. Arthur made the decisive breakway for the hosts, latching on to Suarez's throughball. The midfielder runs across his man to surge into the box before offloading to Messi. He goes for the chip over Gorgelin, but the defender recovers to clear the danger.

Ter Stegen does not cover himself in glory as he comes off his line from a Depay cross. Marcelo beats Lenglet in the air and heads the ball back across the face of goal. Tousart gathers the ball after a scramble before firing a low effort into the bottom corner. A composed finish from the midfielder. Game on.

Messi all but ends the tie as he singlehandedly opens up the Lyon defence before firing his effort through Gorgelin. He made a surge through the middle before turning Denayer and Marcelo inside and out. The Argentine fired at goal on his right foot, and his effort was half-stopped by the Lyon keeper, but it was not a strong enough hand to prevent the ball trickling into the net.

Messi ensures that his side are advancing to the quarter-finals with a sublime run and cross for Pique to tap home. The Argentine raided on a counter down the right flank before picking out Pique on the charge unmarked at the back post. The defender could not miss and he slotted his strike into an empty net.

Messi runs at the heart of the Lyon defence before sliding a pass to an unmarked Dembele in the left inside channel. The Frenchman drills his effort low and hard at goal. Gorgelin gets a hand to the ball, but once again he fails to keep it out as it trickles into the bottom corner. The Catalan club have been clinical in the last 10 minutes.

Barcelona booked a Champions League quarter-final place with a 5-1 home win against Lyon secured thanks to Lionel Messi's inspirational performance, triumphing on aggregate by the same scoreline.
After last month's goalless first leg, Messi opened the scoring at Camp Nou from the penalty spot, with Philippe Coutinho adding a second prior to half-time in Wednesday's tie.
Although Lucas Tousart sparked hope of a second-half Lyon fightback, Barca held their nerve and Messi struck again before Gerard Pique and substitute Ousmane Dembele wrapped up the scoring to seal a place in the last eight, where a bigger test likely awaits.
