The closing of the summer transfer window has presented an interesting analysis of the work done by Barcelona's Pep Segura and Ramon Planes, with the Catalans balancing their books by not making any overly expensive signings while managing to strengthen their squad.
Barcelona were unsuccessful in their search for a top technical midfielder, with Ajax, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus rejecting approaches for Frenkie De Jong, Adrien Rabiot and Miralem Pjanic respectively. Interest in Paul Pogba was more speculative than a serious operation.
The club spent 126.9 million euros, approximately ten million less than in the winter window when Yerry Mina and Philippe Coutinho arrived. Clement Lenglet, Arthur, Arturo Vidal and Malcom all came in this summer, and none cost a fortune while all bring something to Ernesto Valverde's squad.
It is worth noting their sales this summer, even forgetting the 222 million received for Neymar last summer, Barcelona managed to bring in 132 million euros.
Paulinho (50m), Mina (30.2m) and Lucas Digne's (20.2m) sales were all important in balancing their books and they also brought in smaller amounts for Marlon and Gerard Deulofeu.
Selling was fundamental for Josep Maria Bartomeu this summer, who last year was left frustrated by their market activity.
Andre Gomes and Paco Alcacer still present regrets though as the club wanted to sell both but could only move them on on loan deals, while Rafinha's saga was also one that could not be resolved.
