Barca in line to receive just €1m as result of former player’s move to Juventus

In the summer of 2021, Barcelona sold Jean-Clair Todibo to OGC Nice for a total package of €15.5m. Three years on, that figure is about to be added to – but it won’t be by as much as the Catalans would have hoped.

From that deal, Barcelona retained a 20% sell-on clause, and that will come into effect this summer. That’s because Juventus are closing in on a deal to sign Todibo from Nice, as reported by MD. It will be an initial loan, with an option to buy at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

The loan fee will be €5m, of which €1m will go to Barcelona. If Juventus decide to activate the €35m buy option in their agreement for Todibo, the Catalans would receive a further €7m, taking their total to €8m.

Barcelona would have loved Todibo to be sold permanently this summer, given that they are desperately trying to raise funds for the signings of Nico Williams, Dani Olmo and a new defensive midfielder. Alas, they will have to wait until 2025 – and even then, they would not receive that €7m is Juventus don’t activate the option to buy.
