Barcelona manager Hansi Flick called Joao Felix ahead of Euro 2024

Joao Felix‘s future does not appear to have seen any movement in recent weeks. Atletico Madrid are keen to sell him, Barcelona are keen to retain him but on loan, and Felix is keen to stay Barcelona. It helps that he has the backing of new manager Hansi Flick.

According to El Chiringuito, the German manager got in touch with Felix ahead of Euro 2024 as he prepared to head to Germany with Portugal. Flick assured him that he wanted him at Barcelona, he would have a role in the side, minutes and the trust of his new boss, saying he felt he was the ideal coach to get Felix back to his best.

It remains to be seen whether Atletico, Barcelona and Felix can find an agreement to extend his loan again, but if nothing changes, with the Portuguese’s relations at the Metropolitano fraught, they are to a certain extent ‘condemned to finding an understanding.’ Flick’s slightly more direct football, and a potential 4-2-3-1 shape could suit Felix much better. However if he is moved inside, he will have Pedri, Fermin Lopez and Ilkay Gundogan for competition.
