Paris Saint-Germain's contract offer for midfielder Adrien Rabiot has been declined by the player.
The 23-year-old's current deal expires at the end of the season and PSG were keen to tie him down to a renewal.
According to L'Equipe, the offer that was put on the table by his club was rejected instantly by Rabiot, who is still being tracked by Barcelona.
There is now a major risk that he could go a year without playing if the club refuses to play him and he doesn't commit his future to the Parc des Princes outfit.
The report in the French newspaper also claims that sporting director Antero Henrique practices 'expeditious methods' in situations like the one with Rabiot and will want a resolution.
Rabiot previously found himself courting controversy just a few short months ago when, in May, he refused to be part of France's reserve list for their World Cup squad, having not made the initial 23.
