Confusion over Messi move

Barcelona shocked the footballing world last week when they announced that Lionel Messi would be leaving the club, after La Liga rules prevented them from re-signing the free agent.

He seemed, to all intents and purposes, to be set to join PSG on a free transfer. However, reports emerged last night suggesting that a last-minute contract renewal offer had been made to the Argentine, to keep him at Barcelona.

Sadly for Barcelona fans, this appears to have been false, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirming since that “no new bid” for Messi’s services have been made by the Spanish outfit.

As a result, it looks as though Messi’s time in Barcelona may be over once and for all.

Moriba to head to Chelsea?

Ilaix Moriba is one of the most highly regarded Barcelona talents, but has turned down several contract offers, and is now expected to depart the club.

With one year left on his current contract at the Nou Camp, Chelsea are the latest club to have been linked with a move for his services.

Although no fee is mentioned, it would certainly represent a coup for the Blues, with Moriba thought of very highly across Europe.

Pjanic nears Juve return

It seems as though Barcelona may finally have managed to shift one of their higher earners, in the shape of Miralem Pjanic. The Bosnia and Herzegovina midfielder joined Barcelona from Juventus last season, in a swap deal for Arthur.

After just one season, however, it appears that Pjanic will return to Turin, this time on loan, as per Spanish outlet Sport.es. Pjanic is ready to take a 20% wage cut on his 8.5 million euro salary in order to ensure that the deal goes through and that Juventus do not fall foul of financial fair play.

It has been a difficult time for Pjanic, who made 19 La Liga appearances last campaign, but racked up just 619 minutes (the equivalent of less than 7 ninety-minute matches), and failed to contribute a goal or assist in any competition.

With his salary high, and Barcelona in freefall, the move may be best for all parties.
