Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski is reportedly inching closer to extending his contract at the club beyond 2021.
Robert Lewandowski was in top form last weekend when Bayern Munich clinched a dominating 5-0 win over Borussia Dortmund. The Polish striker scored a brace against his former side to hand the Bavarians a much-needed advantage in the Bundesliga title race. Lewandowski has been in fine form for Die Roten throughout this campaign, and the clouds of doubt about his future at the club are also slowly clearing.
According to Przeglad Sportowy, Lewandowski is in advanced negotiations with Bayern to extend his stay at the club. Lewandowski's agent, Pini Zahavi, told the Polish media outlet that the new contract talks are true, but he insisted nothing concrete has been agreed yet.
Bayern's prolific number nine has a contract that will expire in 2021, but the Bavarians are hoping to secure the Pole for at least a few more seasons beyond that.
This news completes an incredible turnaround for Lewandowski, who was actively looking for a transfer last summer. Zahavi publicly admitted in May last year that his client was hoping for a new challenge. The Poland international was reportedly interested in joining Real Madrid, but the Spanish club never made a concrete bid for the player. Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain were also loosely linked with him, but Bayern were in no mood to sell their star striker.
