Bayern Munich took a major step towards an eighth consecutive Bundesliga title this week with a 1-0 win over their nearest challengers Borussia Dortmund.

They are now seven points clear at the summit of the German league and attention has turned to how Bayern might be able to celebrate their crown in the coronavirus era.
Traditionally, Bayern's squad host a title party at the Marienplatz in the city of Munich but the mayor has said that such an occasion will be impossible in the immediate future.

'The beloved tradition of the championship celebration of Bayern on Marienplatz is unfortunately unimaginable this year,' Mayor Dieter Reiter told BILD.
'Not because of the lacking sporting success of the record champion, but of course because of the corona-related limitations.
'I am sure that together with the club we will find an appropriate honor if Bayern should win the title for the eighth time in a row.'
There are still another eight games remaining in the Bundesliga and the season won't be over until the last weekend of June.

Bayern will only comment on celebrations once the title is officially secure.
Bild suggested that if Bayern win the Champions League, the situation could have changed enough for them to hold a celebration.
The European club tournament will be finished, as it stands, by the end of August and there is hope that something could be done by then.
