Uysal, a Beşiktaş midfielder who was temporarily suspended by the Turkish Football Federation for suspected illegal betting, said that his identity information was misused by others to place bets on a website, and he was completely unaware of it.
Today, while leaving the court, Uysal told the media, "I am extremely sad. I have been playing for Beşiktaş for 20 years, and what has happened has completely destroyed my reputation, which makes me extremely heartbroken. This is the darkest moment of my life, but I really didn't do anything."
Uysal claimed that someone had used his identity information to place bets on the website. He went to the Istanbul Çarşamba Courthouse with his lawyer and formally filed a criminal complaint with the prosecution.
Previously, under the instruction of the Prosecutor's Office in Istanbul, Turkey, the Legal Counsel Office of the Turkish Football Association, in the investigation of the "large-scale match-fixing case in Turkish football" widely concerned by society, transferred 1,024 players, including Uysal, to the relevant supervision agency in the form of "provisional measures" for follow-up investigation.
Uysal's statement outside the court:
"Actually, I didn't want to come here at all today, but they've pinned such a charge on me. I'm here today to file a complaint. Someone used my ID number to open an account on a website I've never registered with and placed two bets using so-called 'bonus vouchers'. This wasn't done by me."
I am extremely sad. I have been playing for Beşiktaş for 20 years, and they are still using the club's name, which is hard for me to accept. This is the most difficult moment in my life, and I have done nothing wrong.
They copied my ID number and placed bets using that number. We have already filed a formal complaint and submitted a charge. After the matter is investigated and clarified, I will hold all relevant responsible parties accountable in accordance with the law.
After the incident, I spoke with the relevant accused individuals. That kind of website, after entering the ID number, will require the verification code to be sent to the bound mobile phone number, but I simply don't have that mobile phone number. I've never been involved in sports betting in my life, nor have I registered on any platform. The truth will be investigated, the prosecution will announce the results, and then I'll explain in detail.
Uğur, the Secretary General of Beşiktaş Club, added:
"We are maintaining legal communication with the Football Association. We believe that the lawsuit will soon yield results. Once it is confirmed that these accounts were not opened by Uysal himself, we will immediately submit all evidence to the Football Association."
