When Nicolas Otamendi comes to retire at the end of his playing days, it's probably fair to say acting shouldn't be on his list of priorities when it comes to finding a new a career.
That was quite evident on Thursday night during his Benfica side's 3-0 defeat by rivals Porto in the Portuguese Cup.
Benfica were already well beaten as the game played out the final few seconds of stoppage time at the Estadio do Dragao, as the former Manchester City defender and Luis Diaz chased a ball down the touchline.
Yet, Otamendi carelessly charged at his opponent with a shoulder barge to his face, sending him down to the ground.
The 33-year-old though shamelessly followed by then going down as well while holding his hands to his face, despite there clearly being no contact or even retaliation from Diaz in the touchline exchange.
No referee was ever going to be fooled by Otamendi's actions though and whether it was for the initial challenge or the ridiculous simulation attempt he was dismissed foe a second bookable offence as Porto marched on into the quarter-finals.
Otamendi has been a regular for Jorge Jesus' team this season featuring 23 times across all competitions with 13 of those coming in the top flight.
He joined Benfica in the summer of 2020 in a £13.7million deal from City having started to fall down the pecking order under Pep Guardiola.
Following their cup exit, Benfica will now turn towards challenging for the league title where they still remain in contention to land major silverware this season.
They currently sit third in the table in Portugal with 37 points, with Porto and Sporting Lisbon above them with an additional four points.
