The future of Spain star Nico Williams remains a matter of state for Athletic Club and Barcelona, while state club Paris Saint-Germain are also hoping to steal away the 22-year-old from Spanish football too. A decision is expected next week.
That is according to Matteo Moretto on Relevo, who explains that Williams is yet to reveal anything significant to anyone but his agent Felix Tainta, who has presented all of the pros and cons of each option to him. Athletic Club are determined to retain him, and have a fresh contract ready to go with a wage rise if he does decide to stay in Bilbao.
Meanwhile Barcelona have intensified talks for Williams in the last two weeks, and Moretto’s information is that they can afford to pay his release clause. That said, they still don’t have the green light on the personal terms offered to Williams, although it is not thought that this will be a decisive issue one way or another, as talks with Tainta have been ‘positive and constructive’, as the Blaugrana explain to him the project they are looking to build around him too.
PSG have also been in touch in recent days to see if his signing is a possibility, and what sort of terms would be required for Williams to make a move to Paris. In their case, the €58m release clause would not be an issue either. Next week, Williams is expected to make the call one way or another.
Which way he chooses will likely have a large impact on the transfer market, with Dani Olmo thought to be Barcelona’s alternative to Williams, as well as being a target for Bayern Munich. Meanwhile PSG are yet to make a splash in the transfer market, despite having lost Kylian Mbappe, which seems likely to be remedied at some point.
