Bayern coach Kompany collapsed at the Säbener Strasse training ground on Friday, prompting emergency services to dispatch a rescue helicopter. Emergency medical personnel then transported him to hospital. According to Bild, Kompany's condition is currently stable.
In the evening, Bayern issued a statement saying: "Kompany collapsed on Friday while observing the second-team training session as first-team coach. He is receiving medical care and will undergo detailed examinations at the hospital. Until further notice, his coaching staff will be responsible for training and matches."
Sporting director Eberl said: "Kompany's health is our top priority. Bayern will do everything possible to ensure his speedy recovery. He will receive all the necessary medical care and support, as well as the time he needs. We have full confidence in his coaching staff to take over his duties. Everyone at Bayern wishes him a swift recovery."
After completing first-team training, Kompany was planning to watch the U23 team's session when he collapsed. At 3:54 PM, rescue helicopter "Christoph 1" (CHX1) was dispatched from Harlaching Hospital to Säbener Strasse. His condition is reportedly stable.
According to Bild, Kompany collapsed at the start of the U23 training session in a dramatic incident that left those present shaken. Training was subsequently suspended, with most Bayern first-team players already in the changing room at the time.
Kompany had been weakened by a viral infection the previous week and missed training at Säbener Strasse on Monday. According to Bild, team doctor Professor Roland Schmidt carried out a detailed examination. The following day, the Belgian was unable to lead the final training session before the Champions League match against Arsenal, while assistant coach Dancks attended the press conference in his place. By Wednesday, Kompany was back on the sidelines for the Arsenal match.
