Since joining Birmingham City on loan, Manchester United youngster Tahith Chong has already gone from strength-to-strength.

Birmingham City manager Lee Bowyer has hailed the work-rate of on-loan winger Tahith Chong, insisting that the youngster is a "credit" to Manchester United.

The Dutchman continued his fine start to life in the Midlands on Friday evening, helping the Blues beat Wayne Rooney's Derby County 2-0 to secure their first home victory of the season.

Although he didn't get himself on the scoresheet, the United starlet once again produced a magnificent performance that resulted in him scooping the Man of the Match award.

Chong's presence on the pitch was there for everyone to see; he was a constant menace with the ball at his feet and frequently took a few whacks from the Derby players who struggled to deal with his talents.

But whilst it is his ability with the ball that often catches the eye, Birmingham boss Bowyer has waxed lyrical about Chong's attitude out of possession - and suggested he could still make it at the top level.

Bowyer told Birmingham Live : "Everyone will talk about him in possession and the way he glides past people is beautiful to watch.

"But I look at the other side and he works so hard for the team. To come from Manchester United and to have the attitude he has, and work the way he works, he is a credit to their football club.

"I have told them that already, to produce someone with that talent who works that hard for the team.

"There are other players that have talent, but they are luxury players. He ran 60 yards, sprinted past someone to catch up – I like that more. If you have that talent and still do that, you have every chance of making it at the top."

Chong, who agreed to join Birmingham on a season-long loan deal back in July, has enjoyed an outstanding start to life with the club, making five appearances so far and claiming two assists.
