Brest manager backs Galtier and criticises “whistleblower” Fournier

Brest head coach Eric Roy has given his support to Paris Saint-Germain boss Christophe Galtier amidst allegations of racism held against the latter.

The accusations were found in an alleged email sent by former Nice Sporting Director Julien Fournier during Galtier’s tenure as Les Aiglons’ boss last season. An investigation has been launched, with police conducting searches of OGC Nice’s emails. Galtier responded in his press conference today, once again refuting those accusations, which followed a statement of denial from the manager’s lawyer.

Roy was Les Aiglons’ Sporting Director and a colleague of Fournier as well as a former teammate of Galtier during their professional careers. “I know the two protagonists“, Roy said in his pre-game press conference, transcribed by France Bleu. “I’ve played with Christophe and shared non-football moments with him. We know each other.“

The Stade Brestois manager reminded us that he used to work with Fournier when the latter was Nice’s General Director. The latter did not seem to leave a lasting impression on Roy, who sarcastically called him “the whistleblower” without naming him. “I brought him to OGC Nice, and I know his methods“, Roy assessed. “I’m not surprised about what happened. His methods are inappropriate. He’s not an interesting character to be acquainted with.“

Roy reiterated his support to Galtier, claiming his alleged reputation as a head coach holding racist remarks would have been known by now. “You don’t spend 30 years in dressing rooms without being branded as such. Knowing the two characters, I will therefore put more doubt on the whistleblower than on Galtier.”
