Bruno Fernandes has turned the spotlight on Manchester United youth star James Garner by naming him the academy talent he most wants to play with.

Having put pen to paper on a colossal new four-year contract with United at £240,000 a week, Bruno chose to engage Red Devils fans on social media, taking their questions on a host of topics.

But he set pulses racing when asked by one fan about rising stars from the academy, and 21-year-old Garner was top of the Portuguese's mind.

Born on Merseyside in Birkenhead, Garner has come up through the United academy ranks.

A defensive midfielder, Garner went on loan to Watford for the first part of last season and made 20 appearances in the Championship before moving to Forest for the second half of the campaign.

A clearly impressed Forest re-signed Garner on loan for this season and he has been an integral part of Steve Cooper's impressive side, who currently sit ninth in the Championship and in contention for a play-off place.

Cooper's side have conceded the third-fewest goals in the Championship so far, with Garner a key part of the team's solid defensive unit.

Proving he can mix it with the best, Garner started all four of Forest's FA Cup matches in their storming run to the quarter-finals, beating Arsenal and Leicester in the process before losing 1-0 to Liverpool.

Despite playing a holding role, Garner has scored three goals in 31 Championship appearances this season and provided four assists. He has also been capped twice for the England U21 team.

With doubts over the current United midfield comprising Fred, Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic, perhaps Fernandes will get his wish sooner than he thinks.
