On April 27, Lanzhou Longyuan Athletic was defeated by Tai'an Tian Kuang for 0-3 in the 6th round of CSL League 2. In the second half, a Lanzhou player was shown a strange red card by the referee before substitution.
In 71' of the second half, Lanzhou player Mei Jingxuan was shown a red card by the referee before he came on as a substitute. It is presumed that he may have been thought to have pushed the ball boy to fall that lead to the red card.
After the game, Mei Jingxuan released the video footage in social media - complaining the ball boy "acting", as he didn't understand what was going on before he got booked a red card.
He said on the social media: "In this game against Tai'an, I was warming up down there and I didn't touch the ball boy at all. The coach asked me to go on the field, so I ran back to get ready for the last sprint to warm up and go on the field. I was seeing him laying on the field being a bum and stalling and I thought the referee was going to do something to him.”
"As I was sprinting to get ready to go on the field, the referee pulled me over and gave me a red card without me even understanding what was going on. It is so ridiculous. Last word: good actor."
