CSKA Moscow game miraculously goes ahead despite mountains of snow & -5c

Football fans cannot believe how this CSKA Moscow game has gone ahead despite freezing sub-zero temperatures and snow.

In what was the Russian side's last home match of the year, the players were greeted with less than favourable conditions.

The VEB Arena stadium can be seen absolutely covered in a blizzard of heavy snowfall.

Ground staff before the game desperately tried to clear as much snow as they could from the pitch.

However, as kick-off approached the game was miraculously announced to still be going ahead despite the conditions.

In a week where the UK has been hit by freezing temperatures, it appears there is more than one league in Europe where the weather has affected football.

Whereas this game would have almost certainly been called off in the Premier League, teams in the Russian league seem to be more experienced with this type of weather.

Perhaps even more shocking than the snow was how some CSKA players were wearing short-sleeved shirts.

CSKA will be hoping to use more of that grit as the season develops as they currently sit fifth in the league table.
